About the Artist

Derek Gonzalez is a graphic illustrator, art director, and fine artist currently roaming the suburban lawns of Southern California. He spent his youth immersing himself in comic books, cartoons mythology, fantasy films, and anything remotely resembling obscure pop culture. A primarily self-taught artist, Derek has worked professionally in the realms of comic books, film, fashion, fine art, animation, and more.

Though he maintains an extensive career as an art director and graphic designer in the corporate sphere, he enjoys the opportunity to express himself on his terms whenever possible, hence the creation of this website. Under his personal art brand, Plastiqa, Derek has created a fun and energetic lowbrow art style, often blending counter-culture and mainstream aesthetics with horror, sci-fi, and fantasy elements. His body of work is the culmination of his experiences; a mashup of all the things he likes, loathes, and loves in life.
